THE PARTY (2018)
BASED ON ROB ZOMBIE’S THE HOUSE OF 1001 CORPSES
WHEN CHILDREN want TO MAKE A HORROR SHOW
For the third consecutive year with the children's theatre workshop, I handed over the creative reins and asked them: What do you want to perform this time? Knowing my deep love for horror films, one of them shouted, “Let’s do a horror show!”—and the rest enthusiastically agreed.
I had previously explored horror with kids through nightmares and childhood fears in In the Closet, but this time, I wanted something different.
This year, we’re diving into full-blown gore, trash, and blood—because I know these young performers well enough to take that creative risk and embrace a bold, stylized aesthetic.
Rob Zombie, the Messiah!
Rob Zombie is one of my favorite horror directors, and his universe was a rich source of inspiration. The central premise—three girls arriving at a seemingly abandoned house, only to meet a very bizarre family—is a clear nod to House of 1000 Corpses.
The Party is both a tribute to the wild, gritty world of Rob Zombie and a playground full of hidden references for fans to spot. This show is our love letter to horror—twisted, theatrical, and unapologetically fun.
