FROM HELL (2019)

BASED ON DANTE’S INFERNO

piece for thirteen children and one boat.

This theatrical adaptation of Dante’s Inferno reimagines the journey through Hell as a poetic logbook, guided by the voices of children. Drawing inspiration from the Judeo-Christian vision of the afterlife, the piece explores death through a lens that is mystical, mythological, and deeply human.

The performance opens in Limbo, where virtuous unbaptized souls—especially children—wander without torment, yet eternally yearning to see God. In this vision, these children take center stage: they become the architects and guardians of Hell, guiding the audience like little Virgils through a reversed world where innocence holds authority.

This inversion of adult/child roles opens space for reflection on power, purity, and justice. The children are at once tender and unwavering, impartial yet profoundly poetic.

The staging will be minimal to highlight the text, with a central symbolic element: a boat. Evoking Charon’s ferry and The Raft of the Medusa, the boat embodies themes of passage, loss, and salvation.
